Dr. Douglas Mitts has been involved in missions in Europe since 1991. He lived in Poland and Germany with his wife, Lisa. The vast majority of his time went into the development and facilitation of movement models in church planting and the spiritual formation of leaders. Doug served on GEM’s Senior Leadership Team and in organizational leadership for 20 years. He continues to serve in GEM’s Spiritual Formation Ministry, which he established. He also serves on the senior faculty and as associate director for Selah-Europe, a ministry of Leadership Transformations, Inc., that trains spiritual directors. God has graced Doug with insight into the formation and development of Christ’s Kingdom servants. These insights persuade Doug that apprentices of Jesus enjoy enhanced and sustained ministry through deepening, experienced intimacy with our Triune Lord.
Aside from leadership and facilitation of church planting, Doug has engaged in various ministries through the years, including evangelism, camping, disciple-making, institutional teaching, leading retreats (personal and group), conferences, preaching, training, teaching, Spiritual Direction and training Spiritual Directors.
He earned his ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary and DMin in Spiritual Formation for Ministry Leaders from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Doug’s heart and desire focuses on Jesus’ statement, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” Spiritual Direction seeks just this, that a person would grow in their intimacy and knowledge of the Triune Lord of the universe. Desiring all to come to an experienced, relational knowledge of God provides the motivation for offering others Spiritual Direction.

Hi! I am Lisa Mitts. My husband, Doug, and I continue to serve with Greater Europe Mission. We have two wonderful young adult children who were born and raised in Poland. We have been missionaries in Europe since 1991. I deeply desire to see people thriving and living life as God intended them to in His Kingdom.
I received my spiritual direction training through Leadership Transformations’ Selah Certificate Program. I enjoy receiving my own spiritual direction, and as a spiritual director, I benefit from ongoing supervision of my practice.
A Christian spiritual director is one who comes along side another listening to them share their spiritual journey, helping them pay attention to God’s presence, voice, and activity in their life, deepening their awareness of the invitations He is extending to them. 
Spiritual Direction is a gift that’s nurtured more than a skill that’s taught. It is more about listening to God and companioning another in their relationship with God, rather than talking to them about God. It is making space for prayerful listening to the One who is always with them.
